JOURNAL# 7: For me this chapter was very interesting. What I found so interesting was the fact that these speeches are for special occasions. One of my biggest fears when public speaking is that especially with a tribute or eulogy is becoming too emotional to be able to finish the speech. We all had to give graduation speeches when I graduated from high school and it was a very emotional time and I had to practice my speech enough times so that I was able to give a strong speech without crying through it. Its really interesting how speeches come in so many different forms and are able to have such different impacts on people. It can be funny in a way because when giving a speech it can cause a large amount of stress but when hearing a speech it can cause a greater impact on your way of life.
JOURNAL # 8: Personally this was the most challenging speech that we have done in this class. I found it hard to be able to find the right words in order to properly convey the ideas that I was getting across. Having speeches like these can be challenging due to the fact that not always is the person that you are speaking about able to be put into words. They can be one of the most amazing people in your life but it can be hard to put them to words. Being able to speak about my mom without getting overly emotional was a mental game. Which is something that comes into play rather often with these types of speeches due to the fact that you want people to be able connect and understand you. Again with this speech I worked on the two most challenging points for my speeches which is eye contact / body language and the use of the word “like and um”.
